Technology Standard V: Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction
Design, implement and assess learning experiences that incorporate use of technology in a curruculum-related instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem solving, communication and/or collaboration.
Assess students' learning/instructional needs to identify the appropriate technology for instruction.
Evaluate technology materials and media to determine their most appropriate instructional use.
Select and apply research-based practices for integrating technology into instruction.
Use appropriate instructional strategies for integration technology into instruction.
Select and use appropriate technology to support content specific student learning outcomes.
Develop an appropriate assessment for measuring student outcomes through the use of technology.
Manage a technology-enhanced environment to maximize student learning.
The perfomance task for this standard required the introduction of technology into a "standard" lesson plan. This was an excellent opportunity to plan appropriate technological activities that would be age appropriate and that also support and enhance the objectives of the lesson. In the process of this assignment I employed some of the technology products that we learned about in class. More importantly, I discovered that the only limitation was my imagination, and that it is not difficult to incorporate technology into existing lesson plans. Because today's world is technology based, it is extremely important that students receive appropriate instruction in the use of technology and are exposed to the multiple uses of technology. There are many resources available that a teacher can use in planning technologically enriched lessons and an enhanced lesson is more likely to engage and motivate students than the over utilization of hardcopy workbooks.
